Vegetable dyeing tips: It is perfect for both dyeing and printing.
Animal fibers (wool, silk, alpaca) generally produce more vibrant colors than cellulose fibers (cotton, linen, hemp, etc.).
The dye takes evenly; however, remember to wash it first with a soap such as Marseille soap and/or washing soda. Be careful, wool is particularly sensitive to temperature changes; soak it in your lukewarm dye bath and let the bath cool.
For the mordanting step, use alum (20%) and cream of tartar (5%) dissolved in hot water. Wait until the bath is lukewarm before immersing the scarf. Let it soak overnight.
Finally, rinse well and let it dry before dyeing.
